Day 2: Monday, October 23 | Arrive in Rome
Arrival at Rome’s Fiumicino Airport at 10:55 a.m. Welcome to Italy! Upon arrival we will proceed to complete immigration and customs formalities and will be transferred to our hotel in Rome. Check-in at www.hotelmellini.com/Hotel Dei Mellini. Located on the right bank of the Tiber River and in the heart of Rome between the Spanish Steps and St. Peter's Basilica, our hotel is the ideal venue from which we will explore the marvels of the 'Eternal City'. We will be in very close proximity of the Via Cola di Rienzo shopping area and also of the Via Condotti and Via del Babuino, all within a walking distance of no more than 10 minutes. The Piazza del Popolo is also a 10 min. walk away. Time to relax. This evening, we will embark on a privately guided ‘Rome by Night’ panoramic tour followed by our ‘Welcome Dinner” at a select restaurant in Rome.
Day 3: Tuesday, October 24 | Meeting with His Eminence Kurt Cardinal Koch, President of the Pontifical Commission for Religious Relations with the Jews Private visits to Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel
Following a buffet breakfast, we depart our hotel at 9:00 a.m., for our pre-arranged meeting with His Eminence Kurt Cardinal Koch. Later, we will enjoy a privately guided tour of the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel. The Vatican is one of the world’s greatest museums. Home of the Sistine Chapel and Raphael rooms, this Museum is undoubtedly one of the symbol of western culture and a unique site to appreciate the genius of artists like Michelangelo, Raffaello, Bernini, Giotto and many others. We return to our hotel by late afternoon. Dinner is on your own.
Day 4: Wednesday, October 25 | Private Tour of the Jewish Ghetto with Trastevere
Breakfast at the hotel. Today, accompanied by our knowledgeable guide, we’ll explore Rome's more traditional districts that most tourists do not get to visit. We’ll take a leisurely stroll through the fascinating Jewish Ghetto and Trastevere, one of the most beloved areas of Rome by locals and tourists alike. Admire the splendid Basilica of St. Mary in Trastevere, then walk to Isola Tiberina along the ancientbridge to access the Jewish Ghetto with its medieval alleys, the gorgeous Fountain of Turtles, the 20th century buildings side to side to the medieval ones and the fascinating archaeological site of Porticus Octaviae. Our guide will introduce us to the Synagogue of Rome, built after Italy's unification in 1870, when the Jews were given Italian citizenship. Our walk ends at the Synagogue. The entrance to the Synagogue and the Jewish Museum includes a 45-minute guided tour inside. Our group dinner will be at a Jewish Kosher meat restaurant in Trastevere.
Day 5: Thursday, October 26 | Private tour – Tivoli Villas
After breakfast we leave the city to visit Tivoli, the favourite resort of the ancient Romans. Here we visit the magnificent Villa Adriana and Villa D'Este. Hadrian, one of the most beloved Emperors was attracted to Tivoli by its countryside and the Sulphur springs. He ordered the building of the villa which today boasts to be the largest villa ever built in Antiquity. Work began 117 A.D., as an imperial palace far away from the city of Rome. We spend the day in these lovely surroundings returning to Rome by late afternoon. Lunch at the Tivoli Villa area is included. Dinner is on your own
Day 6: Friday, October 27 | Tour of Sacred Rome
Breakfast at the hotel. We depart at 9:00am for our half-day private tour of Sacred Rome visiting the official city of the Catholic Church for over 2,000 years. It’s here that we will find some of the most beautiful Churches in the world. St. Mary Major, dedicated to the Holy Mother, with its mosaics and the first Papal Residence and St. John’s, which boasts an art collection that spans the ages from the Renaissance to the baroque period. Dedicated to John the Baptist and John the Evangelist, the Basilica of St. John (San Giovanni) in Laterano is also the cathedral of the bishop of Rome, the Pope, and is known the "Cathedral of Rome and of the World." NOTE: A dress-code is in effect today: shoulders and legs covered. . The afternoon is at leisure. In the evening a group dinner at a select restaurant. Day 7: Saturday, October 28 | Free time in Rome
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast. The morning is dedicated for those who wish to go for Saturday Shabbat service, they can do so on their own. Our day is at leisure and as mentioned earlier, our hotel is within a very short walking distance from Via Cola di Rienzo shopping area and also from Via Condotti and Via del Babuino. Free time to explore at your own pace. Dinner is on your own.
Day 8: Sunday, October 29 | Private Half-day Colosseum Tour
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast. The morning is dedicated for those who wish to go for Sunday Church, they can do so on their own.. In the afternoon, we will take a privately guided half-day Colosseum Tour, specially designed to discover the ancient Imperial Rome. Re-live the power of Rome through its most important monuments such as the Colosseum. This Flavian Amphitheatre, built by Emperor Vespasian, was the venue for the games where gladiators bravely fought to seek their freedom. Our visit also includes the magnificent Palatino, where the Roman Forum is located. Dinner is on your own.
Day 9: Monday, October 30 | Free time in Rome, Cooking Class Fooxia
Breakfast is at the hotel. The morning will feature a visit at the Centro Pro Unione, the Center of Ecumenical and Interfaith Dialogue of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement, situated in the heart of Rome, Piazza Navona. The afternoon is at leisure for you to explore the city at your own pace. Go shopping, take an excursions at your own cost or just relax. This evening, we have organized a private cooking class. Nestled in the picturesque narrow alleyways of the Jewish Ghetto, (the oldest continuous Jewish presence outside Israel) is Fooxia Cooking School. Our cooking course concentrates on the techniques of making authentic fresh pasta with the accompanying sauces and also a second dish. At dinner, not only will we taste our own creations, we will also enjoy an appetizer, two ‘primo’ (first) dishes, a ‘secondo’ (second) main course with a side dish and dessert. Table wine and bottled water are included for our Farewell Dinner.
Day 10: Tuesday, October 31 | Arrivederci!
Following breakfast and check out, we will be transferred to Rome Fiumicino Airport in time for our homebound flight. We will fly aboard Air Canada’s non-stop service on AC 891 departing Rome at 10:00 a.m.
